Our History
"Quality and commitment, that's the Wenig difference."
Wenig's
Incorporated began in 1970 as Green Acres Heating, Air Conditioning and
Electrical, on Dwight L. Wenig's farm in western Marion County, Ohio. It started
as a
partnership between Dwight Wenig and James Robert Cook of LaRue. The two
man
business offered service, repair and installation of heating and air
conditioning equipment
in the Marion and Hardin county area.
In 1971, two
of Dwight’s five sons, Clifton and James joined the business, taking over
for Cook who went into farming full time. Another Wenig son, Gary, joined
in 1973
Another Wenig son, Douglas, came on board in 1977, and a year later, Bryan made
the
sixth family member of the growing business.
In the mid
1970's, the business itself was also growing and a decision to expand was
made. The new location is 421 W Center St., Marion, Ohio A new name to identify
the
family operation was also selected, as it became known as Wenig's Green Acres
Inc.
Beginning
with the Amana line of quality heating and air conditioning equipment, the
Wenig's were featuring high (85 percent) efficient gas heating technology to the
public at
a time when the industry average efficiency was only 60 percent.
According to
Dwight Wenig, the Wenig's focus was on "providing the highest quality
system that was available from the current technology in order to ensure our
customers
the highest performance at the lowest operating cost". With personal
system design,
installation and service, the Wenig's "offered exceptional value and commitment
to be
the best," he explained.
A larger
family business, Lennox industries, also dedicated to high standards in the
industry, selected Wenig's Green Acres Inc in late 1975 over several local firms
to
represent the Lennox product line in Marion county.
With the
energy crunch of the mid 1970's and the escalating cost of home heating,
Lennox introduced the most advanced breakthrough in gas heating technology, the
Lennox Pulse Combustion Gas Furnace. Wenig's installed the first of this
new
technology in its showroom for first hand experience and a working display for
the
public.
In 1982, in
the Chateau Ridge area, Wenig's installed the first of hundreds of the
energy saving super high (97 percent) efficient pulse gas furnaces in 1984.
Lennox was
presented a special award "for energy innovation in recognition of a significant
contribution to our nation's energy efficiency" from U.S. Department of Energy.
"Leading The
Way" is the motto of the new and expanded Wenig operation and, to
keep up with the demand for energy efficient systems, Wenig's hired and
trained a
growing work force starting in 1984 to the present number of 14 employees.
In 1987,
Wenig's Inc was chosen to represent the leader in geothermal heat pump
systems, the WaterFurnace system, The Distributor WaterFurnace of Ohio, based
in
Columbus, selected Wenig's for Marion and surrounding counties to design and
install its
systems. Wenig's Inc. was selected after completing extensive training and
certification
from the manufacturer, WaterFurnace International.
These
systems, featuring the Premier line, will provide the lowest heating cost with
400 percent efficiency, most comfortable year round environment, super quiet
operation
and state-of-the-art components for smooth operation and long life.
"Quality and commitment, that's the Wenig difference." It is as
important today
as it was in 1970!
